A cold zone is made visible by the blue
colour in this infrared photograph.
The cold ground will suck the heat out of the ground floor, which will remain cold as a result. In the lower part of the room there is a cold, damp zone where feet and lower legs are seriously cooled and mould and house dust mites thrive. When single glazing is replaced by double glazing, the humidity in the lower part of the house will increase, where previously the single glazing would get misted inside. The cold zone and therefore the locally increased humidity, cannot be counteracted through additional ventilation.
If the house has floor heating, the system's reaction will be very slow due to the continuous cooling at the bottom, which means that people will usually leave the heating on. The floor of the crawl space is heated up unnecessarily. Resulting in a higher energy bill. |

| TONZON Thermocushions work differently than insulating mats or panels. The cushions prevent theunderside of the floor to radiate heat to the cold crawl space floor and the foundation walls which are usually even colder. Now, the floor can only transfer its heat to the air above and below the floor. It will take little energy to heat up the thin air layer under the floor. This layer will become relatively warm, wants to rise but is already at its highest level. As a result, air layers will be created in the Thermocushions, similar to how a boiler works. At the top it is warm and further down it will slowly get colder. As the cushions are closed, the ventilation air cannot disturb these layers.The floor of the crawl space is covered with a strong foil which will stop moist and radon gas, but not the heat coming from the ground in winter. |

Improving comfort
The cold zone in the lower part of the room takes away a lot of heat from lower legs and feet. In many cases, the blood circulation cannot keep up, and you will get cold feet. This could be prevented by putting your legs up,with extra warm socks and slippers, or you could install TONZON Floor Insulation with Thermocushions. |

Higher energy savings
As the floor is a lot warmer now than before, the need for additional heat is reduced. You can notice this in a shorter heating season or a shorter day-to-day heating time. The clock thermostat can switch on later in the morning, as the house heats up much quicker. In the evening the heating can be reduced earlier, as the heat will remain in the house longer.The day, night and evening temperatures can be set a little lower, without any loss of comfort. The internal heat production is exploited more efficiently, as well as the sun heat that reaches the floor in winter.Savings of 20% and more are no exception.A municipal property company in Opmeer provided all its existing rental houses with TONZON Floor Insulation and then conducted a survey and calculated the savings. It turned out that the occupants were very satisfied and noticed that their houses were less cold in the morning than before. The average savings turned out to be 4 times as high as the calculation according to EPBD.
Healthier
Floor coverings on non-insulated floors are cold and as a result they are so moist that they are a perfect living environment for house dust mites. If double glazing has been installed, a large part of the moist that previously condensated on the single glazing will drawn to the cold zone in the lower part of the house. Research showed that excessively high allergen concentrations were found in fixed floor coverings. Even a loose rug on a smooth floor, which was relatively innocent in a house with single glazing, turns into a breeding nest for house dust mites after installing double glazing, as a result of which people could become asthmatic at a later age or could develop another allergy (emphysema, nose irritation, eczema). TONZON Thermocushions will make the floor a lot warmer and therefore a lot dryer. This also applies to the traditional hiding places of the house dust mite, such as below heavy furniture and along the edges that will also get warmer in case of the TONZON system. This will make it very difficult for the mite to survive the dry winter period. This results in a significantly lower allergen concentration. In case of other types of insulation, it will take longer for the floor to heat up, the floor will become less warm and cools quicker. This means that the humidity at the floor is continuously higher. In case of most systems, the edges will become colder instead of warmer, which means that the mites are perfectly able to survive the winter here.

| In case of wooden floors, the cushions are usually installed between the beams. This is practical, as most of the pipes are fixed to the underside of the beams. Moreover, you will not lose any crawl space. The advantage of the cushions is that they remain dry in a crawl space, which makes them safe for wooden floors. Even the beam ends will become warmer and dryer. The system will even stop concrete decay, as 31 years of practical experience has shown.
