Sloping Roofs
Sloping roofs can be insulated without any problems as long as there is no enclosed evaporating layer on top of the roof. Thermocushions as well as Thermosheets can be used to insulate roofs. Often a combination of the two is used where the Thermocushion divides the space between the beams into three layers. The additional Thermosheet applied on top of the beams covers it off totally without seams. If gib board, wood or other suitable material is attached on top of the battens, an insulation of 4 reflective air layers is created. In colder climates this will give an extra R-value to the roof depending on the pitch of Rd=2,10 (pitch 30°) till 2,40 (pitch 60°) in summer and in hot climates the extra R-value will be much higher, depending on the total air enclosed, and will go up to Rd=4,15 if 12 cm air is inclosed. Instead of Thermocushions, several layers of Thermosheet can be applied between the beams.

In colder climates TONZON roof insulation has a double effect. In winter less heat gets lost through the roof resulting in energy saving, and in summer it keeps the heat out giving a cooler living environment like in hot climate the whole year around.

Flat Roofs
Flat roofs can be insulated from the inside. A concrete roof can be insulated the way a wall is insulated. (see wall insulation ). In hot climates one or more air layers may be thicker as 2 cm what will result in a higher thermal resistance. This is because in summer and in hot climates the heat flow is going downwards so heat losses through convection are negligible . In this case you may calculate with an equivalent thermal conductivity coefficient of 0,0290 W/mK.
